Post-Independence Day Week Links

In the course of researching an article on Google Fonts and trying to figure out which of them will become the newest scourge of the web design world, I came across this Wall Street Journal profile of Vincent Connare, the man behind the current scourge of the web design world, Comic Sans. Turns out he developed the typface to go with another scourge of our digital times, Microsoft Bob, widely regarded as one of the worst software products of all time.
Also, wikipedia has a great history of typography, which includes a brief explanation of the difference between a font and a typeface. I have always used the terms interchangeably (when I wanted to sound like a typegeek I’d use “typeface,” rather than “font” – personal branding!). In fact a typeface is made up of fonts, such as Roman, bold or italic.
My favorite find during this search? LMNOP, a blog with an entry called America’s Most Fonted: the 7 Worst Fonts. This is my fave because it’s a great post title, and because the blog’s subtitle is nearly illegible.
